The master of words is here again. He keeps writing as such, but somehow for Vishal Bhardwaj's movies, it gets special. Though in the last year he's written only for Vishal's movies. Directed by him, or at least produced by him. Anyway, this was not about whose-movie-is-it. This is about the song, that I love, and probably you do too.

First off, yes, the song does remind you of Dil to Bachcha Hai ji, because of some clear similarities. The song is sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, the words are utterly simple, though the meaning conveyed is deep, and most importantly, the music is quite minimalist.

But then, that's most of it. There is no repetition of tune or part thereof (which is common in sequels, sometimes to the extent where they just add two more dhoom machaleys to the previous version), there is no trademark harmonium beginning of the earlier song, and there is no unnecessary inclusion of the familiar words - dil, bachcha or even ji. Yes, they could get the song a little free publicity, but would eventually make it worth less.

Instead, the team comes up with a new song, with some simple music, and rich lyrics. Rich are the lyrics that say things in words as simple as 'Lage to phir yoon ke rog laage, na saans aave, na saans jaave', almost a rustic choice of words, and still say things that need to be explained with notes. Even the 'mukhda' of the song is beautifully carved. It's burning you when you fall in love, this way or that.

When you catch it (love, talking of it like some flu), it feels like some illness,

[Namuraad literally means a failure, a loser, someone who is unlucky, but is also used as a kind of soft swear word, and that seems the intention here.]

Jackpot Movie Review - Sunny Leone

So here's the bottom line. Sunny Leone hardly ever strips in "Jackpot". The film is not about skin show. It's more about scratching smooth surfaces to get to the evil avaricious core of the human heart. Everyone is greedy in Kaizad Gustad's film, some more than the others. And every character is an imposter.

If you like films where a briefcase stashed with currency notes is tossed around with the cast in frenetic pursuit (think Guy Ritchie), then this is the film you would probably want to check out.

Noire cinema gets a twist in the tale. Ten years after his controversial and colourful "Boom", Gustad takes us on a Goan caper.

Shot with dexterity by Artur Zurawski in rain-drenched boats and the dockside desolation of Goa "Jackpot" is the kind of wild gambit of one-upmanship where heroes and wimps exchange places so swiftly and suddenly you don't know who is doing what. And to whom.

There are three main characters - let's just call them the Boss (Naseeruddin Shah), his moll (Sunny Leone) and the Boss' right hand man Francis (Sachiin Joshi).

The tightly packed episodes of the spiraling plot leave very little room for porous moments. There is no breathing space in the narration. Gustad piles up 'atmosphere' so aggressively, you fear the narration may collapse.

At 90 minutes "Jackpot" clocks quite a curious yarn, more notable for what it attempts than what it actually achieves. The narration dares damnation with episodes from the lives of the three main characters going back and forth as if time never really mattered to people who are on the road to monetary salvation.

It's all very confounding.

Gustad, who last made the badly received "Boom", does a ritzy take on the noire genre. Admittedly he lends an erotic edge to the game of one-upmanship with the Goan monsoon lending a sizzle and a drizzle that remain sadly unmatched by Leone's voluptuous presence.

Sachiin, toned up physically and underplaying his charlatan's part, and Leone can't seem to keep their hands off one another.

Naseer in an interesting blonde Bob Marley hairstyle brings a wicked gleam into every frame. And yes, he is in almost every frame probably trying to make sense of the plot the way he did while shooting for M.F. Hussain's "Gaja Gamini". There are as many coils, twists and tangles in the film's plot as there are in Naseer's wig, though the plot is not half as riveting as Naseer's hair.

Sadly the stylish packaging and striking cinematography remain unsupported by the plot and characters. Neither are interesting or dangerous enough to be endearing in their immorality.

Sorry, it just doesn't add up.

Kamli is a Punjabi word which means mad, crazy.

Ni main kamli kamli is a song of Dhoom 3, and the phrase means nothing but 'I've gone crazy, crazy.'

This seems to be the item number which could be compared to earlier crazy kiya re from Dhoom series. Getting crazy is part of Dhoom it seems, and this time they're doing it all in Punjabi, be it Malang ^[meaning] or kamli.

R Rajkmar is stuck in a time warp. It has some village goons fighting to get monopoly over the opium market in not only their ilaaka but the poori duniya. Then they have henchmen who get into innumerable stupid fights and bash each other up at the tiniest provocation. Then there is heroine who can beat up eve teasers but simpers coyly when she gets disgustingly called Lollypop by her aashiqui. She sings a song where she calls him badmash , awaara etc a la Asha Parekh and finally a hero who falls in love at first sight, owns the heroine and will come back from the dead to even the score. Sigh, cry, why???

The only good line in the whole movie is where Sonakshi tells Shahid “tum to mere height ke bhi nahi ho” and he says”tumhara vajan dekha hai kya? Main adjust kar raha hoon tum bhi kar lo”. If this can make me happy then you know how bad the rest is. The only good part of the movie is the rather comical choreography especially in the ‘sari ke fall se’ song, where a guy randomly enters the frame and runs out. Maybe that’s what Prabhudeva should stick to doing.

Shahid does a good job of the dancing but that’s about it. I don’t know why he chooses these absurd roles that make him act like an idiot. There are a couple of close ups when he is angry and there is so much intensity in him that you feel sorry that he wastes himself in this kind of rubbish. Sonakshi is in one of her leaner phases in this movie or the ghagra and the square ‘Sponge Bob’ cut of her salwars manages to hide a lot.

This movie might appeal to the lowest of the low intelligences. There was one such person in the row ahead of me laughing like a hyena at every inane joke and every sexist, demeaning, humiliating comment aimed at women. I love Prabhu Deva as a choreographer and a dancer but if this is how he views women and treats them then I really cannot separate the dancer from the man.

I cannot even tell you to leave your brains behind and watch it. Even if you do, at some deep subliminal level, in your gut, you will reject it. I think if shown to a comatose person he will wake up in disgust (ah! that could actually be a scene in this movie!) Am disgusted. For both of us. Stay at home and thank me for doing you this favour.

Overall Review Verdict: Terrible movie stuck in a time warp. Don't even think about watching it.

Hamari Atariya pe: Lyrics Translation [Dedh Ishqiya]

Hamri Atariya ^[meaning] pe aaja re Sanwariya. Vishal Bhardwaj composes, Gulzar writes the lyrics, Rekha Bharadwaj sings, and Madhuri Dixit dances to it. To top it, the song is based on an old thumri on raaga Sindhu Bhairavi. Now how could you not expect high from the song. But for me, despite the high expectations from it, the song still passes, and with quite flying colors. See if you like it too. The first song of Dedh Ishqiya ^[meaning].
